The Shri Durga Stuti is the most celebrated and most powerful hymn of veneration to the Goddess Durga. This stuti is a unique and auspicious prayer to this deity and it has been sung by great saints like Kabir, Tulsidas, Surdas, Ravidas among others. The Shri Durga Stuti is 108th in all songs of glorification of the Goddess Durga. The text of this Shriti as well as its translation is available online at http://janamohitabuddhimantrasara.blogspot.co. uk/2008/02/shri-durga-stuti-108th-in-all.html The hymn has been rendered by famous singers like Ramlal, Ramananda, Ram Prakash Gupta and many others. It is the most commonly recited hymn in the 20th century Siddha Yoga. The hymn was composed by the great yogi Guru Shri Mahadev at the instance of Parshwanath (the sage who attained Siddhi). The poem was written by Akashwani. The meaning of the Shri Durga Stuti is that one has to worship Goddess Durga with 108 sounds, sub-divided into four sub-divisions called the "Samagri" (44), anushtas (56), trishtup (72) and "chandi" (88). These four parts were recorded by Gurudev Shankar Maharaj in his book Madhava Chasmabuddhi. The text of the Shri Durga Stuti is in verses containing 44 letters, 56 letters, 72 letters and 88 letters. The "Samagri" has 44 letters. It is two short verses namely stotras #1-2 which are about 6 to 7 times repeated in the duration of one complete recitation of this hymn. The total number of hymns are 9 + 10 + 11 + 2 = 34 consisting of 64 stanzas. Each stanza has three lines, each line containing seven words, for a total of 84 words. The last 18 verses are called "Ras Puja". The 108 Names/Verses are distributed under four major divisions viz. "Samagri" (44), "Anushtas" (56), "Trishtup" (72) and "Chandi" (88). Goddess Durga is like the Sun to us. It looks like fire but it is our mukti, freedom from sin. It contains the light of wisdom of the divine knowledge of all creation; hence it is called shakti. The Sun through its heat, sends out rays which are powerful enough to purify all gathered dusts of sins and to revive broken trees. These 108 Stuti constitute holy prayer to the Goddess Durga, seeking her blessings for our liberation from sins or mukti or freedom from bondage or karmas. cfa1e77820
