Eurogamer recently spoke with Bethesda Game Studios boss Todd Howard. There we learned that while it may disappoint fans, mods will not be making their way to the Nintendo Switch like they have with other platforms.
Howard added that Bethesda's Switch team has been focused on projects like Fallout Shelter - which Howard notes has gone quite well. But new Skyrim content, let alone mods, isn't something the studio is focused on at this time.

"Even though everyone's connected and it matchmakes you to an invisible server, and you can play with your friends, we know, based on our history, that the future of [Fallout 76], the long life of it, is in people having their own worlds they can mod and make their own and say, 'Hey come play in mine and see what I did,'" Howard continued. "Or there's an easy way for them to get mods and pick and choose 'I want my game this way', because no matter what we do, once you release tools and you have this huge community making things, the best stuff rises to the top."
Nintendo Switch players can now enjoy their favorite game, Skyrim, on their console. And the cherry on top is the fact that they can also install the best Skyrim mods on Nintendo Switch now. Today, we will take a look at 19 best Skyrim Switch mods of all time.
The PC players of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are no strangers to modding. They resort to the best mods created by the big community of modders to escape from the vanilla experience. However, when it comes to console players, especially Nintendo Switch players, the choices of mods are quite limited.
UNP Female Body Renewal is one of the most popular female body mods for Skyrim. This mod replaces the female body with one wearing the vanilla underwear or a nude body. The mod also converts all the vanilla outfits for females. The textures included are SG textures, Feminine Khajiit Textures for the Grey Cat, and Feminine Argonian Textures for the Lizard.
As you can guess from its name, Cheat Room is basically a room designed for Skyrim where players can cheat and get help for their in-game adventures and missions. This is one of the biggest cheat mods in Skyrim that allows you to do so much without actually editing anything in the original game.
Cloaks of Skyrim is one of the biggest cloak mods in Skyrim that brings about 100 all-new cloaks to Skyrim through levelled lists, static loot, and crafting. All the cloaks are enchantable and completely lore-friendly.
As a result, you will have unlimited options and variety of cloaks to wear to keep up with your style while staying warm in Skyrim. These warm and stylish cloaks will also come in handy for keeping you warm if you have the Frostfall or Hypothermia mods. These cloaks are not just available for the character. In fact, you will notice the nPCs wearing random cloaks that are quite rare and special to find.
Project AHO is one of the biggest Skyrim Switch mods that can be considered a DLC. Built in line with the standards of Bethesda, this quest mod adds a hidden settlement in Skyrim, known as the Great House Telvanni, whose fate is in your hands! In this mod, you will get to learn about the history of the Sadrith Kegran inhabitants and meet them.
The Static Mesh Improvement Mod (SMIM) is one of the biggest Skyrim mods that makes major improvements to the static 3D models in the game. So this includes improvements to the landscapes, furniture, clutter, and architecture in Skyrim.
To install Skyrim Switch mods, download the Skyrim for Switch Mod Manager (SSMM). This mod manager tool allows you to organize mods, create the right folder and file structures, and install and patch as many mods you like.
This is only going to further encourage Nintendo Switch owners to open up their systems to homebrew. It has been demonstrated that Skyrim mods created for PC can work on Switch with little to no issues.
However, don't expect Skyrim mods to show up on the Switch. Both Xbox One--and to a lesser extent--PlayStation 4 consoles support mods, but Bethesda PR exec Pete Hines says that Skyrim Switch mods are "not planned at this time." This makes a lot of sense: platforms like the Switch and PS4 don't support mods very well and gamers will rely on Bethesda's hotly contested Creation Club for extra content. The Creation Club sells bite-sized add-ons that can be purchased with real money. According to Mr. Hines, Creation Club content is "more like mini DLC than mods."
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition has been released for the Nintendo Switch, but how does this latest port stack up to previous versions? Skyrim is undeniably one of the most popular video games to ever exist. In more than a decade since it's release, it has seen numerous re-releases for various consoles and in multiple editions, first coming to the Switch in 2017 as the Special Edition. Throughout this time, Skyrim's had some of the best gameplay mods to add even more content, ensuring that players can always find something new.
While open-world role-playing game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has support for user-created modifications or mods as they're known for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, don't expect any mods for the Nintendo Switch version of the game. For consoles, all mods have to go through Bethesda's Creation Club. And there are no plans to bring it to the Nintendo Switch at this juncture. Bethesda Games Studio boss Todd Howard confirmed these at Gamelab, a developer event in Spain last week.
Right now, Howard admits that Bethesda has done "nothing" because it's "on other things" such as Fallout Shelter for the Switch. When pressed about Skyim mods on the Switch he said it's not going to happen.
I haven't checked but I assume there'll still be room for free mods (some of which may also involve items, quests, etc. it's just that these are what Bethesda consider "curated premium mods" as it were), including graphical improvements
@danlk1ng I'm sure Bethesda considers a lot of things premium, but mods were never a thing anyone charged for when I played this game. There were tons of 'extra content' mods right from the beginning, all free. People even made entirely new campaigns with full voice acting for free. There is nothing in this list I would pay for.
@vapidwolf unfortunately not mod enabled yet. Sure it'll only be a matter of time. Just play the Special Edition and add hundreds of mods, works amazing and there's some great graphical and performance related ones
@NomNom They're made by modders but Bethesda paid for them. They're basically 'official' mods, but as far as I know, they all have to be tested and added to the game by Bethesda to ensure everything's compatible.
@vapidwolf No outside asserts sadly still but the PS4/PS5 version does still have some pretty great mods there especially the graphical mods what do a better job of making Skyrim look "current gen" then Bethesda does.
What are they doing? Grab the game on pc and download as many as free mods you wish and enjoy. I've beaten skyrim both on ps3 and pc. The menu and item weight on the ps3 version was so annoying that I regret my time spent on that. For some games with huge community support, the pc is the definite way to enjoy
@Hydra_Spectre I've waited years for them to do this but at this point it's never going to happen, as for these mods they are good for console players but pc is far more adaptable with how many mods it has, there are still free mods available, played for too many hours to count so I've had my fill of Skyrim.
@2here2there likewise what i said, there are many free mods available, even for the anniversary edition which I have on pc, and yes I've played Skyrim on, PS3, PS4, PSVR, and PC, so I'm exhausted from Skyrim for the foreseeable future ???
When it comes to Nintendo Switch modifications, softmods are the most common, with users usually delving into homebrew. Homebrew is a kind of softmodding that hobbyists and tech enthusiasts engage with, often installing custom firmware, otherwise known as CFW, to access features of hardware not otherwise allowed by Nintendo.
When it comes to Nintendo Switch hardmods, users can change the appearance of their console, add custom plates to give their system a new color, or install a D-Pad on the left Joy-Con controller. For a specific type of Homebrew on the original Nintendo Switch model, users discovered a hardmod in which the left Joy-Con rail was manipulated in order to place the console in a vulnerable state for softmodding. Nintendo released newer versions of the Switch that prevented this method from working.
Most mods function through programs built by the Homebrew community which are either installed directly on the console or installed on a computer and used in tandem with consoles, through a wired connection or SD cards. Whether these programs are easy to use depends entirely on how experienced the user is with technology, but thankfully the Homebrew community offers extensive step-by-step instructions that new users can follow without necessarily understanding the inner workings of Homebrew programs. There is an active and thriving online community as well, setting up forums and chatrooms specifically dedicated to helping curious new users.
Skyrim: Anniversary Edition marks the second release of the game on the platform, with the Special Edition coming out back in late 2017. Creation Club mods aside, the Anniversary Edition seems to be exactly the same as the Special Edition, meaning those who already own the game have little reason to splash the cash on yet another Skyrim release.
They asked for mods, they asked for Creation Club - 'When are we getting more stuff? Right now we're doing nothing, People, they're on other things. Our Switch group did Fallout Shelter ... and that's done really well. I'm surprised at how well it's done.
I'm looking for a way to quickly switch between first and third person perspective in skyrim. I've learnt that you can press the F key and this will switch, but there is a delay, is there anyway to speed this up, or swap instantly? 2ff7e9595c
